Our Energy Courses
eRisk Group offers as of 2019 energy courses for all levels of understanding of the different energy markets. These courses can be tailor-made to the needs of the client, be it on a one on one basis or for a larger group. The course is a mix of theory, examples at the hand of historical or current issues on the energy market and practical exercises.
Understanding Energy
We organize this basic fundamentals course 3 times a year. In this course, you will meet participants who all deal with energy in all sorts of ways: it could be an entrepreneur, an alderman with energy in his / her portfolio, a director of a housing corporation or an area developer.
During the course you will get to grip with terms used in energy and their definition. You will learn to critically read current news and announcements regarding energy policies and markets. What is the difference between energy neutral and carbon neutral? How do you calculate the output of a windmill and compare it with a coal plant? We will discuss proportions (for example heat demand industry versus heat demand househoulds).
Time investment: 1 day Location: centrally located location in Utrecht.
Participation fee: 250 euro pp.
Energy Fundamentals
The Energy Fundamentals course is a intensive and very informative course for anyone who started working in the energy industry or about to deal with issues related to the energy market. In two days time, we will go over the way energy is generated, consumed, transported and converted. We will go over historical developments to understand policy choices made today. We will also discuss all current affairs (security of supply, hydrogen, nuclear energy, Dutch national energy scenario’s, etc).
During the course, we will alternate between theory and practical examples. We have prepared a set of exercises to solve as a group as well as individually. We will answer questions such as:
- How is energy offered to the market and what is a merit order?
- What are the differences between the Netherlands and our neighboring countries?
- What events have played a role in the past and how does this affect today’s policies and markets?
- What does the load of a domestic customer look like versus that of an industrial cluster?
- What about proportions? How many times a windmill is a coal-fired power station? How much heat can you extract from an industry and how is that in relation to the demand of the built environment?
- What major developments are brought about by the Climate Agreement?
- How does hydrogen compare to/of/relate to electricity?
This course does not require any prior knowledge of the energy market. Yet, as it is very complete and in-depth, it is also useful for a professional having worked for years in the energy value chain.
Participation fee: 850 euro, pp.
“In Debate About Energy”
In just one day, we discuss four important topics of the energy transition.
- Energy security of supply: how does the generation side of the energy mix develop, what about the profitability of existing assets? How did other countries solve it?
- Flexibility: battery, electrify, convert, or switch off? Which options and what are their core brands?
- Models and scenarios: how do you read a model and how do you quickly get to the core of a report?
- What about the consumer? Affordability, choices in the system, possibilities and state of the art. We go through the energy bill well together.
The course material helps each participant form an opinion on the topic and try their argumentation out by testing their assumptions. We base this course on actuality, but it can be extended or altered in consultation with our clients. We can also prepare other topics for discussion. For example: “the future of our heat demand”.
Participation fee: 400 euro pp.
Tailor-made Energy Course
In consultation with our client, we design a program that fits the knowledge need but also the available time. The tailor-made course can be organised for groups or on a one-on-one basis, for example in preparation for a new appointment in the energy sector. We teach these courses at the location chosen by our client, but it can also be organized at our office.
Lecture/Day Chair:
You can also hire us for a lecture or to help design or present a symposium. We are experienced speakers and have been often asked to present to different groups of stakeholders (Rabobank, ACM, ZEN festival, Province of Utrecht, Province of Zeeland, Energeia, diverse energy companies, DIFFER). We apply different rates for the private and the public sector.
